About Us

Finding new ways to support collaborative R&D

REACT was a four year project, dedicated to getting academia and businesses working together. We connected researchers from the arts and humanities with creative businesses to make brilliant new prototype products or services.

Between 2012 and 2016, we  supported a slate of innovative projects which responded to the changing world of business and society. This involved developing new systems and approaches to collaborative R&D, working with a dazzling range of creatives, businesses, researchers and experts.

We have funded over 30,000 hours of work in 53 collaborations between 73 academics and 55 businesses. We’ve helped these teams make products for sectors such as heritage, publishing, documentary, and children’s products.

Our network has grown to over 700 arts and humanities academics and creative businesses, and to date companies have earned upwards of £2.5m in further investments, and Universities have earned upwards of £2.3m from funding bids drawing in our network.

REACT was a collaboration between the UWE Bristol, Watershed, and the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter.  We are one of four Knowledge Exchange Hubs for the Creative Economy funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
