Reflecting the Past reimagined how the rich and hidden stories of our historic spaces can be experienced by using augmented reality mirrors to re-populate heritage properties with the characters and stories from their pasts.

Using a wide range of media including augmented screens, film, and directional speakers, Tom Bennett of ideas agency Interactive Places and historian Tim Cole created an experience where visitors saw their own reflections, caught glimpses of historical characters conversing, and heard snippets of conversation as ghostly images faded from view.

Working with i-Dat in Plymouth, the team trialled the technology in Newark Park, a National Trust managed Tudor Hunting lodge.
